Crypto License in Poland: Everything You Need to Know

The crypto regulatory landscape in Europe is changing fast  - and Poland is right in the middle of it.

With the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation coming into force, any company offering crypto-related services in the EU will soon need a CASP license to operate legally. Whether you’re running an exchange, a wallet service, or a crypto trading platform, MiCA makes registration more than just a box to check, it’s the new baseline for staying in the market.

So, what does this mean if you’re based in - or expanding into Poland? Let’s break it down.

What Is a CASP License in Poland?

The CASP license (Crypto-Asset Service Provider license) is required under the MiCA regulation for crypto businesses operating in the EU. It ensures you meet EU-wide standards for transparency, financial stability, and anti-money laundering (AML). In Poland, the process is supervised by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF).

If your business offers any of the following services, a CASP license is mandatory:

  • Crypto custody or wallet services
  • Exchange/trading platforms
  • Fiat - Crypto or Crypto - Crypto services
  • Executing orders for clients
  • Crypto payments or transfers
  • Investment advice or portfolio management in crypto assets

CASP License Timeline in Poland

Time is ticking. Here’s what the MiCA transition timeline looks like:

📌 December 30, 2024 - MiCA regulations officially take effect.

📌 2025 TBD - Final deadline to submit CASP license applications (exact date subject to confirmation).

If you're operating under a VASP registration today, you’ll need to transition to a full CASP license to continue serving customers legally.
